Morning seven, Yes, I am a vampire
Eva and the
children stayed up playing all night. It is morning now and the
sun rise doesn't bother you. You haven't turned fully yet.
The only thing that feels different is you are not hungry and you
don't feel tired.
Thinking ahead to when
you do turn you decide to remove most of the crosses you have seen.
Eva will not be able to resist them. You probably won't
either. In the house there is one over the fireplace mantle.
You take a wheel barrow and go from house to house collecting them.
Then you collect many from the church. The only one left is the
one on the steeple.
You roll them out in
the woods, dig a hole, and bury them. You dust the dirt off
your hands. Put the shovel back in the barrow and roll it back
to the village. You remember the book.
Back in Eva's house you find Father Thias' book on theology still on
the table where you left it from last night. The cover has a
cross on it which you promptly rip off. You lay it face down in
the fire place to be burned later. You sit down at the wooden
table and begin reading.
About an hour
into the book you feel something touch your mind. Roll 4D vs.
IQ to resist having your mind read. If you succeed get ten
experience points and roll again. You suspect the unseen force
trying this is the astral wizard who is supposed to be checking on
you. He will keep trying until you fail the saving roll and he
has entered your mind.
Mentally you rail
at him "You can't use telepathy on anyone you are not in direct
physical contact with!" It's almost as if you are
resisting by trying to disbelieve what is happening. A soft
voice responds in your mind. "I had to invent a spell to
get my greater mage status and this is it. Astral telepathy."
It feels like he is poking around in your memories. The voice
continues at the same time "I am Omni, head of the Wizard's
Guild."
You lurch to your feet
knocking over the bench you were on. You are positive he hasn't
learned anything yet. You decide to play it cool. "You
startled me," you say out loud. You think mentally this
time "I find this more than a little rude. You could have
announced yourself first."
The soft
voice responds from the middle of your consciousness, almost as if
from with in. "I'm sorry, but I need to know. Did
you finish your mission?" You feel a memory open in your
mind. "I see you did," the voice continues "Did
you find Father Thias?" Another memory opens. "I
see that you buried him, that is well."
In a flash of inspiration you realize that he can only take two
pieces of information from you at a time and that he can't maintain
this spell very long. You decide to take the initiative.
You ask him some questions. "How long before you can send
reenforcements? Is this book of Father Thias' very valuable?"
The soft voice leaves your memory alone
for a moment to answer you. "I am coming after a bit of
resting and Yes, the book is something new and valuable. Father
Thias' thesis at seminary college was on possible new ways to gain
experience. Ways that don't necessarily require killing and
such."
You allow yourself just a
fleeting feeling of joy. Its working. He's so caught up
in talking he isn't probing your mind. The soft voice
continues.
"He theorized that in
the High priest to parishioner relationship one could develop new
stronger methods of gaining experience. Peaceful methods.
He called this new attribute 'wisdom' and felt that it contained
great potential for healing man's taste for war and making people
feel a stronger connection to their community."
"You must keep the book safe till I get there. I have to
go rest now. Many people have been waiting for Father Thais, to
finish the book with great anticipation." You feel the
soft voice starting to fade from your mind. "The bishop,
the Wizard's Guild, even some merchants." The voice is
almost a whisper now. "I will see you soon." It
is gone.
You realize you are covered
from head to toe in sweat. Your shirt is soaked. Eva is
standing there looking at you worried. She must have heard you
call out at some point. You speak out loud. More to your
self than to her. "That was close. We have to get
ready. Omni is coming."
