SOLO III
Demon World
Part 019
The boy wakes up with a stream of profanity and
cursing. "What the hell! Who the blood sucking are
you?" He jumps to his feet in a low crowch like some feral dog,
his corn husk forgotten, and snarls.
Rebecca says "Don't you remember..." and then she
stops. Remembering what Gail told her. Let Uncle do all the
talking. She looks to you.
You say "I'm here to take you back. If you
want."
He growls back "I'm here to crack your skulls
together, if YOU want." And he barks three times like a hound.
"Do you want to stay here, stealing food, and living
under a rock, or..."
"I'll peal your skin, break off a rib, and stab you
in the throat with it."
"... or ..." you repeat "Do you want to come with
us."
He turns his head sideways like he's not sure what
you are. He seems to calm down for a second. He doesn't
trust grown ups. They don't treat him well here.
"You can come with us, if you want, and learn to be
decent again."
"Eat glass." he says defiantly.
Rebecca touches you on the shoulder and looks in
your eyes. She shakes her head from side to side. You can
tell what she means. This isn't going to work.
You try again. "Look. You're not
yourself. You've just been treated badly." You hold out
your hand. "Take my hand. Come with us."
He growls a little. "Jagged tooth, toung
swallowing, slime drinker." But his eyes don't look so certain
anymore. He's begining to doubt that you are a threat he thought
you were.
You keep your hand extended as an offer, and stay
calm. You're having doubts about how well he'll fit in now.
He seems to have been totally corrupted by the poor lost souls up
here. But there is still a chance.
"Free food." you say, still smiling.
He looks you in the eyes for the first time and you
can see. There is still humanity in him. Like a dull ember
that has amost gone out. A faint touch of warmth in his pupils
surounded an icy world of cold heartedness. He seems to feel the
connection and his hand slowly reaches out to you, like it has a mind
of its own.
In that instance two things happen suddenly.
Rebecca slaps his hand away from yours with
lightning speed, and the lake of fire erupts. She says "He's
possessed, they know we're here!" While a spot of blackness
launches out of the burning lake, arcs overhead disrupting the clowdy
heavens, and rumbles with explosions. You can't help but look up.
Dropping out of the sky is an enormous ancient
demon. It suddenly leapt up from the pool of flame. Like a
burning meteroite streaking through the air leaving a black trail of
smoke. The ground shakes as it lands before you crushing
countless skulls with its enormous feet. It's smokey path still
marked out as an arch in the air leading back to the molten
sulfer. Like some kind of dark rainbow of oily blackness.
Your heads comes up to the knee on the demons right
leg. Massive wings of smoke and fire spread around you. The
Demon looks at you. In its eyes you can see all of the cold
heartedness that trapped the boys pupils.
In it's hands is a long black rod. This rod
sucks the light out of the very air into itself. Not emiting
darkness, but bending the light rays and drawing them into
itself. Leaving the area around you growing dimmer and
dimmer. The rod is some singular measuring tool of hungry evil.
He turns the rod on you, and you snap out of
it. Luckily you are faster than even an ancient demon and
teleport home. No point in staying around. You appear
instantly in the eating hall. Rebecca is already there.
"That was disturbing." Rebecca says.
