Demon World
Part 008
They are ready to take down a demon. It's about an hour
to midnight.
The evening meal is long over, and all the younger kids have been asleep
for
hours. It's a long walk through the catacombs. Also three young
girls you
don't know are coming. Along with Rebbeca, Ada, Gail, and yourself.
But
everyone, even the new girls, are wearing the sharpest clothes. Dressed
to
the nines. They look like they are going to the grand ball, not topple
a
demon. No small amount of time is spent selecting the most dapper evening
wear for you.
Finally, dressed for a night on the town, the whole group sets
out on a
long walk. About an hour into the catacombs you stop at a small room.
Everyone is speaking in hushed tones. Subdued just by being in this
room.
"We are going to teleport you before the throne of a demon."
The three
girls point up. "They are directly above us." They put down their
arms.
"Do not worry about all the demons you see gathered before his throne.
They
only want the throne for themselves. When it is empty they will fight
each
other to get it. That is all they want, the throne. They will
let you kill
the demon who sits on it."
One of the girls gestures to Rebecca. "She will rescue
the child."
Another girl gestures to Ada. "Ada, will finish the demon."
The three girls line up in front of you, Ada, and Rebecca.
"You
shouldn't be in there for more than 10 seconds. Then teleport straight
back
to our eating room." They bow their heads and the next thing you know
you
are standing before the throne of a demon.

Cleansing(1) cost 20 per hex
then teleport out next turn.
The demon on the throne looks shocked to see you. You
have caught him
completely unaware. All the other demons are lounging around on cusions
bored and yawning. Some of them start to notice you. They will
watch with
glee as the fight begins.
For some reason you come right to the point. You charge
the up the glove
with layers of emotions. Then the demons move. Every demon on
a carpet or
throw pillow has their eyes open and are paying attention. They are
wearing
nice classy outfits. Their fingers and hair finely groomed.
The demon on the throne is up, out of his seat, standing next
to you, and
shooting in to take you down. It's so fast. You are sure he can
teleport.
Roll 1D6 and consult the table below.
1-2 you go down on the
floor, the demon piles on top of you.
3-4 the demon gets your legs and pulls you down.
5 you push the demon back.
6 you block the demon's hands with your fist,
punching him for 1+5 damage with the
flaming glove.
Odds are that Ada is now standing over you while you
wrestle with the
demon, and Rebecca is somewhere you can't see her. But you hear her
say to
the little girl. "It's o.k. We'll bring your cloak with us." And she
scoops
up the little girl with 3 MA (AM page 5).
Uncle's action
Depends on weather you resisted HTH with a 5 or 6. In
HTH you loose your
action this turn. If you did resist, you still get an action, you can
strike his chest. You can strike it so hard it might cave in.
If you hit
the glove will do 7+3 damage (you take 5 fatigue, it feels like an instant
5
hour work out.) This roll needs to be made at DX 15 (16 is an automatic
miss). 25 points of damage will knock him silly and he will lose his
next
turn (both the demon's move and action). If you resisted HTH of course.
Ada's Action
She passes her hand over the hex the demon is in and says a
blessing in
latin. Or some other language. What ever it is it sounds oddly
familiar,
like you knew it at one time. You do recognize one word. "Purgare,"
wich
means to make clean. If Ada makes her DX 18 then the demon is instantly
dead (AW page 17). It instead of taking the 20 points of fatigue on
her
self (impossible) she drains it from her gem.
Rebecca's Action
She teleports out of the room with the little girl on DX 16.
That ends
the first round of combat with the demons. If for some reason both;
you
missed the demon, and Ada fails to cleanse him he will hit you at DX 15 for
4+1. That will probably kill you.
Next Turn
During RENEW SPELLS phase you and Ada need to put work into your
respective long-distance teleport items. There is a risk associated
with
this kind of magic. If you roll a natural 16, you teleported into solid
rock and die. Make a DX 15 roll to escape to the large eating room
by using
long distance teleport. If you or Ada are in HTH with a live demon
the odds
are much worse. Any spell casting in HTH is DX-6, so that roll is DX
10.
Failure to escape means the fight continues. If the demon was
killed last
turn this means the next demon on the throne attacks. This will continue
till you and Ada escape, kill all the demons, or they kill you.
Survivors get 30 exp each for accomplishing the rescue. Individually
they
get 1 point for each point of damage done, and the DX of any demon they
killed. And an additional 1 point per point of fatigue spent.
That's 6 to
Uncle for charging the glove, and 20 for teleporting out. Ada also
gets 20
for the cleansing, and 20 for teleporting out.
When you get out Ada is thrilled. "Lets do that again tommorrow
night."
Dinner is set in the large eating room. Every candle is lit, and everyone
is welcoming the new girl. In the morning the children will take your
necklace and recharge it. Also here is what is sniffed out in the magical
cloak the little girl has.
