Mako the wizard desperately wants to make a rod of lightning. He has just invested a ton of gold into his first lab, and he has acquired the tome detailing the construction of such a device. Unfortunately he is having no luck procuring the key ingredient. One live silver slime for each charge the rod will hold.
Mako knows where plenty of slimes can be found. There is a small island on the coast shaped like a hat. It's flat and round with a big bulge in the middle. The profile looks like a gentleman's top hat. And it is infested with silver slimes.

     The slimes themselves mostly live off fish. They ooze into the water, find a school of fish and discharge a little electricity to stun their prey. Easy pickings after that, even for a slime.
     The trouble has come with the naturalists Mako used to hire back when he was just making potions. Everyone he has sent has never returned. They must be dead, because they have always come back in the past. Even if it was just to admit defeat.
     So Mako has had to find new volunteers. Two dozen villagers and townspeople have failed to come back. So he starts paying in advance. Still no one survives. He tried finding some naturalists in the nearby city, but none of them will touch the job. It has gotten to the point where he will pay $1500 in advance for just one “Live” silver slime. This too has failed him twice.

     He seems oblivious to the effect this has had on the local pool of man power. All he knows is that he is desperate and willing to cut almost any kind of deal. Too bad he doesn't realize that a ring of control slime would have been a much better choice for the first item to be made in his lab.
