GM I
Bad and Stupid
Part 008
The following
series of bad guys are doomed to fail. Most of them will never
cross paths with Uncle and the Girls, except the last one "Grand
Master of Thieves." He will actively seek them out.
The others can be used to add a little color to a GM's other settings
or towns if they wish. Or not. These bad guys progress from
just lame to criminally ignorant. Enjoy!
The
Un-burglar
This one is stupid by way of
good intentions. If the GM ever needs to explain why the
burglar the party just killed had so much money on him, just read
this bio. It proves that putting too many limits on yourself
can lead to disaster.
Geffin wants to
be a good guy, but he doesn't want anyone to know. The
best way to be a good guy is through giving charity. He
figures. But it has to be done in secret. No one can know
that it is him. He has to figure out a way to give away money
without the chance that anyone will know.
So he decided to become an un-burglar. He apprenticed himself
to the thieves guild and learned all the requisite talents. Now
he figures he can sneak into people's houses at night and leave money
instead of taking it. The idea of this tickles him on the
inside to no end.
But where will he get
the money. He can't just steal it, and then give it to some one
else. And he can't risk a dangerous job where he might get
killed before he gets the chance to give away any money. So he
learns to read and write and he takes a job as a shop worker /
scribe.

It takes him fifteen weeks to save up
enough cash for one raid as an un-burglar. At this rate he can
do three runs a year. In his free days he cases out possible
locations and finds a family worthy of some financial help.
So finally the night comes. He dons his dark clothes, readies
his cushioned bag of coins, and steals quietly out into the night.
Of course he failed to realize one thing. Being a scribe is
safe. There is no risk. But breaking into people's homes,
what ever the reason, is very dangerous. Particularly when a
dad with small children wakes up to find a strange figure dressed all
in black in his room.
Burglar: risk 5/14
In my test of
this character design, Geffin failed his first risk roll, and was
killed his first night out. But at least his wish was granted.
No one ever knew he wanted to give money away.
