The human pirate (a scoundrel of the high
seas that no one could ever find because, it was said, he had a
secret base on each of the thousand islands around the human
homeland) had taken the surface of Branya and driven the forces of
hell below the surface. Then he was crowned king with a mithril
crown by father Muldowny. He was to be know as "Lord"
Arrogant and to be called pirate no longer.
Apparently while all the other races and "official" leaders
had been working together, for the first time ever, he had sent his
entire fleet to hire, steal, or kidnap any and every priest of any
and every religion that they could. He sailed straight for the
island of Branya where they could see thousands of terrible fiends
dancing around fires, and feasting on the bodies of the slain.
When they drew the ships as close to the shore as they could without
beaching, he ordered his men to make every holy man walk the plank.
Then he withdrew his ships and waited.
Arragants'
personal counselor, a sage named Mr Marious, had recommended this
course of action to him. He had explained that the Fathers,
Caliphs, and Buddhists would have nowhere to go but ashore. He
explained that no one was better qualified to drive out demons and
devils than the faithful. Further he explained that by this
method Arrogant (now called Lord) could take the island with out
losing a single one of his own men. When the dawn broke for the
last time on the island of Branya there was one priest left standing
from each of the three religions, and not a minion of hell to be seen
anywhere in the light.
Arrogant landed and moved into a fortress that he named Castle
Arrogant. There was nothing the combined races could do but
acknowledge this new sovereign, pardon him from all past crimes, and
send their men as quickly as possible so they could get in on the
mithril business too. This also set the precedent of pardon and
promotion for anyone who serves on Branya. The titans sent
around one of their largest stone ships (called an 'arc')
and loaded all the draftees on board. By January 7, 451 they
had arrived at the island of Branya. The Dwarves arrived that
evening.
